T H E S H I N I G A M I

They are souls with a high level of innate Spiritual Energy, recruited from the ranks of the residents and nobility of Soul Society. Their bodies are composed of Reishi instead of atoms. This means that just like most other types of spirits, they can only be seen by other spiritually aware entities, which excludes most Humans. Nevertheless, they are quite capable of influencing their environment. When souls with exceptional spiritual energy train their bodies, they reach the level of Shinigami. The most talented of them become affiliated with various organizations like the Gotei and the Onmitsukidō. Sometimes, a Shinigami is born among the residents of the Rukongai, and in some rare cases from Seireitei.

T H E I R D U T Y:

Konsō (魂葬, Soul Burial): the process by which a Shinigami sends wandering Pluses (souls) in the living world and send them to their respective place. Either Soul Society if they are good in life, or to Hell if their life was full of evil acts (such as murders, theft, etc). Konsō is performed by using the hilt of the Shinigami's Zanpakutō, tapping the soul on the head and transporting them to the afterlife.

Hollow Cleansing: When a Shinigami slays a Hollow (evil spirit) with their Zanpakutō, they cleanse their sins. Once this takes place, a Hollow will return to its former state as a Plus and is led into Soul Society. This is called sublimation. Souls that live in Soul Society are reborn again into the human world. Not all Hollows are sent to the Soul Society. Since Zanpakutō are only capable of cleansing sins committed after becoming a Hollow, Hollows that committed serious crimes when they were still Human are sent to Hell when they are slain. Also, if they are destroyed by a Quincy, Hollows are completely vanquished and cannot ever return to the Soul Society.

Soul Governance: Shinigami are responsible for governing the flow of spirits between the Human World and Soul Society. This is commonly carried out by balancing the total number of souls by moving and managing them in the human world. All of the soul-related jobs are under their authority.

T H E G O T E I

The Gotei 13 (護廷十三隊, Goteijūsantai; 13 Division Imperial Guards, 13 Court Guard Squads is the primary military branch of Soul Society. It is also the main military organization that most Shinigami join after the academy.

T H E M I S S I O N:

The Gotei 13 serves as a military force with its primary responsibilities consisting of:

The defense of the Seireitei, the center of Soul Society.

The deployment of Division members into enemy territory for combat operations.

The deployment of Task Forces as defensive measures in the world of the living.

The guiding of souls to the Soul Society.

T H E G E N E R A L O P E R A T I O N S:

The Gotei , in contrast to the normal operations of modern-day militaries, does not operate as a cohesive unit normally. The command of the divisions are generally left to the discretion of its particular Captain, who commonly runs it whatever way he or she sees fit, allowing for the change of a division's traditional duties to an entirely new set and even the creation of a separate institution connected to the division. The Gotei 13's main duty is to defend the Seireitei but they are also allocated districts in Rukongai to defend. In addition to these duties, Shinigami also have to deal with the business of being assigned to the Human World.

The only general authority to call forth a combined front would be that of an edict from the Central 46 Chambers, or more often the Captain-Commander. It is not uncommon for captains to not see each other as a whole group for long periods of time, except for cases involving a threat to all of the Soul Society, a captain's punishment, or to a lesser degree, a captain's promotion. On a regular basis, the captains are spread out all across the Soul Society doing their divisions' duties, whatever they may be. They are, in fact, so far spread out that getting the Captains together as a group, or even getting their lieutenants together as a group, could normally take a day to accomplish.

Unless specifically ordered by the Captain-Commander, captains can choose whether or not to attend meetings (at their own risk) or not even involve themselves in the daily situations of the Soul Society. Captains are not allowed, without permission, to carry out activities outside of their normal jurisdiction or their division. The captain of one division cannot punish the subordinates of another captain.

The Captain’s Council

The Captains congregate together in the main hall of the First Division Headquarters to discuss important issues involving their specific divisions and matters that affect Soul Society. This council is highly formal with the captain-commander leading its proceedings. All captains are considered equal (with the exception of the captain-commander) and determine the course of their individual division unless dictated otherwise by the captain-commander. Votes are carried out via a unanimous consensus.

Steps to becoming a Captain:

There are three known ways in which to become a Captain of the Gotei 13. And these are:

1. Captain proficiency test (隊首, taishu): A test which requires the ability to perform Bankai. Nearly all Shinigami become captains using this method. At least three existing captains, including the Captain-Commander, have to witness the test. Here on Bleach Soul Purify, this method will be enforced if one hopes to ascend to the position of Captain. This has to be done In Character of course; OCC/OOC will not count.

2. Personal Recommendation: To have personal recommendations from at least six captains and approval from at least three of the remaining seven. Here on Bleach Soul Purify, this method will be enforced if one hopes to ascend to the position of Captain. This process may be the most difficult of them all, considering one has to take the time to get the approval of the other Captains. This must be carried out In Character if it is chosen as one of the three steps.

3. Trial by Combat: To defeat a captain one-on-one with at least 200 witnesses from the captain's division. Here on Bleach Soul Purify, this method may also be employed. However, as Bleach Soul Purify is an AU site, getting 200 witnesses may prove to be impossible. As such, by using the Captain’s proficiency test method, one may be able to succeed. This means the Captains Commander and two other Captains must be present in a In Character Topic.

As is darkness is to light, so was Death to Life. Ever since the creation of the first life form, Death was simultaneously created. Gifted with breath but cursed with the bone, everything eventually came to an end and Death was what reaped the souls of all. First of its kind, as long as forgotten memory dates the black clad demon walked both the real and surreal plain. With a stroke of its blade it would scribe out the names on a long list. It was there when man first killed his own brethren and under orders from the highest being returning the soul of the fallen brethren to its creator. It was there when the desert kingdom was plagued and punished, it was there when War conquered barbaric tribes, it was there when Pestilence slowly claimed lives, it was there when man disputed over new found land, it was there when a nation cried out in painful torture, it was there when hundreds fell to their death, it was and is everywhere, waiting for the last grain of sand to pass through the thin waist of time.

It had many names, Death, as one would expect ; the Grim Reaper, the Angel of Death, Sa shin, Shinigami. As many names as it had it had many forms and with it came many versions. A Black Clad Skeleton, a curved blade on a staff that claimed all, a ritualistic demon, a winged body of perfection. Some aspects of the myth hold true, clad in black, a blade, a demon, a body. Over years that pre-date memory death had many names but today death is unidentified as a lady. Ironic, if life was a beautiful lie, death was the ugly truth. One would expect an old wrinkled man in a suit, with a no silly business attitude and perhaps an unfitting attraction to Street fast food delicacies. Rather Death, was a relatively young lady. Aesthetically some might have found her young and beautiful but that one guesses could be the great plot twist. Life is but an appearance and death brings the truth. Death, she was named but today? She is called Yuri Aoi.

In the beginning she had been the sole agent, her work took her all over the world. The Hand would write down a name and she would carry out the deed. She would reap and take the dead to the next world, to heaven to hell. But judging them was not her job, her job was to simply part the souls from their physical bodies. To judge was Another's burden. The punisher existed in a deeper plain. Heaven was ruled by Another, her job was simply to be the soldier, to man the garrison. And for a long time she was by herself but as man and life began to prosper things became busy and as powerful as she was she was not omnipotent. More of her kind were made each given their own jobs, each their own boss. Perhaps they were 20 or so of them, so called Soul Reapers. There was no hierarchy, no seniority they answered only to themselves and the Creator. Each unique in his or her own way, they weren't close nor were they enemies. In fact they seldom saw one another. Work kept them busy and on rare occasions they would see each other in their home world and even then simple exchanges of greetings and how many had been reaped.

Yet as time went by the individuals began to believe themselves to be gods, mistaking their duty as their pleasure or powers. In time these individuals began learning how to mold weaponry(Asauchi) and develop spiritual arts(Kido) and other such things. The Asauchi then took on the form known to many as a Zanapakuto, soon realizing that they too had living spirits inside them. The Shinigami continued their role of maintaining the balance between the living and the dead.

But they were not without faults, and the perfection of death had become corrupt to a certain extent. Soon a few disobeyed, going rogue and doing as he or she pleased. Seeing no repercussions many followed suit. Boundaries began to break, Murder, forcefully departing the soul from the body when it was not time, the destruction of souls bad and good alike. Perhaps it was not such a good idea. Because from such deeds, the Hollow was born, the counterpart to the Shinigami. The Hollow too was death, but they did not ferry the departed to another plain of existence. They instead sought to feast on these souls, and through their corruption many more Hollows was created.

The unjust Soul Reapers started desecrating everything that they were suppose to have stood for. Th departed Souls sent to the Soul Society found themselves in a predicated after a few years. They were subjected to barbaric treatment, in what became known as the Rukongai districts. There the unjust Shinigami built Colosseum, and soon had these poor souls do battle for their right to even exist. This was truly unjust, and no longer could the creator of the Shinigami standby and watch.

For the first time Yuri had been given a different command. Strike down your fellow brothers and sisters. A war was waged against one another, one side against the other, there was the tainted known as the warlords, and then there was the more just, but not entirely innocent. Overtime the war boiled over between them, and the unjust found a bitter end, except for one, for at that time he was too powerful to simply kill. But he was sealed and locked away for all eternity, that was his punishment.

All others were struck down, their very existence were destroyed. Yuri now found herself in the company of a few loyal Shinigami. Only now the workload was once again too much. Soldiers would be needed but this time it would be done differently, instead of creating from thin air this time the soldiers would be selected and be trained. The Soul King soon commanded a select few Shinigami to be his personal guards. The Royal Guards of whom shall dwell in the King's palace. As for the others, they would remain with Yuri and carry on, but now Yuri Aoi saw some benefit in establishing a more structured system. But to do such a thing, soldiers would be required in order to protect the realms from any future wars.

Former humans would be used. Now parted from their physical bodies they had the potential to be soldiers. It was ideal in a sense, nearly all had no memory of when they were human beings. This meant they had already grown up to be an adult but as well as have a clean slate to train. It is easier to train a solider when he holds no bad habits. However not anyone could serve as a soldier. To do not choose those who drink with their hands but those who plunge head first and drink straight from the stream. Souls generally did not have to eat but there were those who had a hunger much like a growing child. These were the ones that were ideal to train to become the soldiers. One by one Yuri gathered hungry souls, travelling at first like nomads across the soul realm. Whenever she found time she would train the few she had found, how to fight and how to use the magical gifts that would be blessed upon them. As the ages passed, her students had enough experience and knowledge to gather their own disciples and train them in turn. Soon the ragtag group of Shinigami had grown to a significant number.

They settled building wooden homes, organizing into formal ranks. This was the great difference a hierarchy system, each man answering to a higher up. This way there was a system of accountability and lessening the chances of a Rogue Shinigami. Different soldiers had different strengths, dividing their roles into sub-organs. The division that held Command over general affairs, the division which handled medical attention, the division that policed their own members, the division that saw to furthering the advancement of the race and the division that saw to a brutal wars that the spiritual world held. The Gotei had been established. Around this time a new threat had arisen. Formerly known as supernatural beings or commonly known as hollows had begun to evolve.

The Gotei 13 Divisions & Duties:

Ichibantai (1st Division)- The First Division is ranked highest among the 13 Divisions. Even subordinate members of the First Division are considered model Shinigami. Emergency must be dealt with swiftly; quick decisions and quick actions are essential. The division is able to ascertain a situation and mobilize quickly even before an order is issued. That is the true value of the First Division. The first is also responsible for leading the Gotei 13 forces. More specifically the Sotaicho, whose authority supersedes that of other Captains etc. The Ichibantai is more or less all the all seeing eye of the Gotei 13. Captains and Lieutenants of other divisions will often relay important information to the Sotaicho. Division Perk: All members of this division regardless of rank are allowed to create missions in correlation to their rank. IE: Lt makes Class 2 and lower missions, 3rd seat can make Class 3 and lower missions etc. The creator of the mission will receive 1/6th of the experience the mission rewards when it is completed. The Captain Commander automatically receives 1/4th of ALL missions completed. You cannot do missions that YOU create.

Nibantai (2nd Division)- The 2nd Division has been directly linked to the Onmitsukidō. As such the special operations of Soul Society has become the full measure of what the division involves itself in primarily. Members are tasked with assassination, policing, detention and message couriers. The 2nd Division will often undertake secret missions, that may involve assassination and the like. The Nibantai is also responsible for detaining those deemed to be dangerous and a threat to the Gotei 13 and the Soul Society as a whole. For this reason, the maggot’s nest is used, a place that many a Shinigami doesn’t know exist. Division Perk: 2nd Division members are generally required to be stealthier and quicker than members of other divisions and can use Flash steps more frequently and more times than other divisions. Each member gains an extra 3 Flash Steps and subtract 1 cool down.

Yonbantai (4th Division)- The 4th Division is the medical/supply division. They are responsible for both treating the injured and doing most of the manual labor, such as cleaning the Seireitei. The 4th Division is further divided into teams that have specific assigned jobs. Other division members use their spiritual power only for fighting. Members of the 4th Division possess spiritual powers that is used to tend to wounds and provide relief. They use these special powers and the benefits of their daily training to act with precision and speed to aid injured comrades. Members of the Yonbantai will at times be deployed, along with other divisions to the battlefield. However, the Yonbantai is rarely required to take part in battle, as they given the task of tending to the injured. Division Perk: You are the only group allowed to learn and create healing kido. You auto gain Healing Kido spells between level 1-30 for free that are canon. You still must pay to create custom healing kido.

Rokubantai (6th Division)- Real World Reconnaissance, finding missing Shinigami that have gone to the real world and have become missing or undetectable. Usually their missions consist of bringing Shinigami back who have had prolonged period missions in the Human World. The Rokubantai are also known for policing the Seireitei. Members of the Rokubantai will often detain those who have broken the law, so that they may be brought to justice. Division Perk: 6th division members gain double points from capturing rogue shinigami including Vizards and 1/4 more points for completing missions in general.

Juichibantai (11th Division)- The Eleventh Division is the direct-combat Division with a specialization in swords-only combat, forgoing the other Shinigami arts and thereby being one of the most specialized divisions in the Gotei 13. The division's doctrine of dominating in battle is what appeals to its members; they believe that fighting is what makes life worth living. This is what separates 11th Division from the others and makes them the strongest division. Everyone in the 11th Division are highly skilled in fighting. They believe if they are going to die anyway, go down fighting gloriously. Division Perk: 11th Division members will gain the ability to ignore any damage/wounds that they receive or have received for 3 posts. This can be activated at any time. This effect must be activated in OOC during the fight expressing the use of the 11 Division perk. Failure to activate this prior to your attacks or damage received will result in a void. This can only be used once every 20 posts.

Junibantai (12th Division)- The 12th Division develops new technology and spiritual tools and is the home of the S.R.D.I, founded by Izanagi. As such technological and scientific research has become the full measure of what the division involves itself in primarily. Members are tasked with research and collection of data and samples. The 12th division is also responsible for monitoring the material world, reporting back any disturbances that may prove to be a threat. The 12th Division keeps a constant eye on the Material World and even the Seireitei as a whole. Division Perk: 12th division members are the only shinigami allowed to create custom items and weapons and get a 35% discount on all inventions

-Level 1 –The basic understanding of your zanpakuto, this is a requirement for accessing your shikai, and knowing its name. Ones power and proficient with the sword. You have learned the name of your Zanpaktou and the two of you have learned how to work together. Your roughly 3rd seat officer in terms of skills with your sword play, as well as your shikai. Bankai is inaccessible at this stage. Cost - 300 ExperienceStarts off with 2 techniuqes
-Level 2 – A mutual understanding if your zanpakuto, this is a required for obtaining bankai. Those of this level are highly skilled. LT/Captain level, are able to learn the basic zanjutsu skills. Can coat your sword in reiyoku to increase its cutting power so it can match a level 1 shikai. Cost - 500 ExperienceStarts off with 3 techniques
-Level 3 – Considered perhaps the penultimate in terms of proficient with swordsmanship. The highest level of ones Zanjutsu, enabling the usage of Kendo the same way Zaraki Kenpachi does in the anime/manga (with proper training). Not only that, you are now able to release your Zanpaktou without a Release Phrase. You can coat your zanpakuto with reiyoku, increasing its cutting power and distance, about a full two inches from the tip. Your skills can easily match a Level 1 in shikai, and coated, you can match a level 2 in shikai. At this stage, your shikai can match the bankai of a level two quite readily. Augmentation-
-Constant Release - Your zan is always at the ready, in its shikai state. Along with all of your abilities and techniques active all the time, without the need to release it. Must be at least level two to purchase this with bankai. Cost - 150 Experience

-#1: Nadegiri – This basic technique allows for a precision cut of extreme force and speed with their katana, or sharp sword of any kind, as it may casually slice through any large, multi-story high opponents. Must be level 3 to purchase this, as well as having purchased Kendou: Sanshin [Will Lin Off] Cost - 150 ExperienceReiatsu - 100
-#2: Sukigiri – A more refined technique, allows for a precise and powerful block with extreme force and speed. Able to stop a single attack with the use of the sword at such speeds, even point blank attacks are hard pressed by its power. Rivaling Nadegiri in terms of power, it creates a highly pressurized wave that blocks an attack and causes no damage done to oneself. Must be level three to purchase, as well have purchased the previous two. [Physical, Instant] Cost - 150 ExperienceReiatsu - 150
-First Division Sect - The peak of zanpakuto skills, and swordsmanship, those at this level at known to be true monsters in terms of sword skills. At this level, it isn't even a fair fight unless your a captain. One must purchase everything in order to obtain this. At this level, your sealed weapon can easily break through most defenses with a single swing. If one does not have proper protection (at least level three in terms of defensive skills, Heirro or such) your sword will cut through like butter. Grants an additional technique to shikai AND bankai. (Two in total.) [Cannot be ignored.] Cost - 1000 Experience

-Level 1 – In every art, one has to start off somewhere. And for those on this level, they are at the bottom of the food chain in terms of skill. You’re capable of defending yourself barehanded, but you’re lacking in speed and power and technique.You can land an accurate hit and cause damage with your fists. In a rumble you could kill someone barehanded, given enough hits. At this level, your comparable to a 4-5th seat in terms of physical punching power. Cost - 300 Experience
-Level 2 – Those of this level may also employ speed, strength and agility in order to take down their opponents. By attacking certain points of the body, they are capable of stunning their opponent by landing a critical hit. Like their master counterpart, experts too can knock an opponent unconscious, with a strong enough strike to the back of the neck. Hakuda Experts may also come in different forms, based on their way of fighting. Some will rely on brute strength and speed, while others are more acrobatic and agile compared to most. This is standard for most captains, good skills, able to handle themselves without there weapon. At least level you can block a level 1 unreleased zanpakuto with your hands. Cost - 500 Experience
-Level 3 – Hakuda Masters are more or less the equivalent of a master swordsman, although the applications may be different. This means, Hakuda masters will have little too no trouble doing combat, against those who specialize in a different art of fighting. Always looking to out manoeuvre their opponent, their arms and legs, can prove to be lethal weapons at times. Those of this level know exactly where to hit in order to cause the most pain and discomfort to their opponents. True masters, at this level you can block the shikai of a level one, and the unreleased of a level two in terms of zanpakuto with your hands and feet. Cost - 700 Experience

Augmentation-
-Hakuda Superstar - Must be at least a level two to purchase any hakuda techniques. (This costs nothing, but is a stated requirement)
-Bronze Skin – Level 1 – Due to the training of their hakuda, they are able to extend the blocking power of there strikes, able to catch the sealed zanpakuto of a level three. (Must be level three.) [Cannot be ignored.] Cost - 300 Experience
-Steel Skin – Level 2 – Same as above however this adds an additional nomenclature, able to catch the bankai of a level two zanpakuto. Must have purchased Bronze Skin. [Cannot be ignored.] Cost - 700 Experience
-Ikkotsu – The user focuses all their strength into their fist and strikes at the opponent’s body. The punch is powerful enough to break bones and muscles in the vicinity area of their fist upon impact. Must have purchased Bronze Skin [Will be Linked Off] Cost - 150 ExperienceReiatsu - 100
-Soukotsu– A powerful double fisted punch delivered to a opponent that delivers incredible crushing and breaking force into their entire major bones. At its strongest form, this power can shatter and break an opponent in half, faster than an opponent has time to react to the pain. It is so strong that two fist shaped impressions are smashed into the land behind the opponent, giving it the title, “Double Bone”. Must have purchased everything, Level 3, Bronze and Steel Skin, and Ikkotsu. [Will be Linked Off] Cost - 250 ExperienceReiatsu - 200

-Level 1 – You got some skill, Kido will not blow up back at you and you can use Kido without a incarnation. But, when you do use it with one, it will be stronger than the one without a incarnation. (Without incantation, your spells will be about 20 levels lower) Cost - 300 ExperienceReiatsu Reduction - Reduce cost by 10% for kidou spells
-Level 2 – Skills from previous levels are at your disposal. But, now you can cast double incarnations and when starting, you can get 1 more extra free Kido spell free. This is roughly a LT class level, your spells without incantation will be roughly 10 levels lower. Cost - 500 ExperienceReiatsu Reduction - Reduce cost by 20% for kidou spells (Doesn't stack with previous level, just a set 20%)
-Level 3 – Skills from previous levels are at your disposal. Also, you can start with 2 more extra and free Kido Spells when starting out. But, thats not it. At this level you are so good with Kido that you can even use Kōjutsu Eishō (lit. "Later Mention Incantation"), where the incantation is recited after initiating the spell to power it up. Captain class characters are this level, without incantation the spells will be 5 levels lower, and with later mention they will be 5 levels higher. Cost - 700 ExperienceReiatsu Reduction - Reduce cost by 40% for kidou spells

Augmentation-
-Ishōhaki – a class of Kidō Incantation where the Kidō practitioner forgoes using a spoken incantation at all. While it decreases the time needed to release the Kidō, it drastically weakens the spell. While anyone well versed in Kidō can use this technique, it is most effective when done by a skilled practitioner, otherwise the spell could utterly fail (i.e.: the spell explodes in the user's face). The most skilled experts are capable of using this technique to amazing effect. Must be at least level one to purchase Cost - 150 ExperienceIncrease cost by 10 for kidou spells
-Nijū Eishō – a class of Kidō Incantation where the Kidō practitioner mixes the incantations of two entirely separate Kidō spells together to save time and confuse ones' opponent at the same time. Must at least be level two to purchase Cost - 150 ExperienceIncrease cost by 10 per spell
-Kōjutsu Eishō – a class of Kidō Incantation where the incantation is recited after initiating the spell in order to power it up. So far, only Hachigen Ushōda has been seen using this technique, in order to reinforce the nature of his Ryūbi no Jōmon during his fight against Baraggan Louisenbairn. Must be at least level three to purchase Cost - 150 ExperienceIncrease cost by 25
-Specialized Kido– This is where you can purchase a specialized area, such as healing, barrier, sealing. It can be purchased multiple times but for only different thins. You must be at least level three to purchase, and have bought Later mention and Incantation Skip. Cost - 200 Experience
-Shunko – An advanced technique that combines hand-to-hand combat and Kidō energy to explosively increase a Shinigami's offensive capabilities. A high-pressured Kidō surges throughout the user's body, enhancing their arms and legs for battle. Only purchasable if you have level 3 in Hakuda as well as level three in Kidou. Follows Shunko rules/regulations. Cost - 1000 ExperienceReiatsu - 65 per turn
